STARTUP JOURNEY
Kabir was born and brought up in Kolkata. After that, he completed his studies in the USA and returned to India in 2010. For a brief period, he worked with his father, Qummar Siddiq, who was into the furniture and interior designing business.
Later, Kabir got a job in Deutsche Bank, Mumbai, and worked as an investment banker for the next four years. He earned and saves a lot of money in this job and returned to Kolkata, where he invested Rs.35 lakh in the distributorship of a mattress company.
Success, however, did not come on a platter to Kabir, He lost around Rs.15 lakh in distributorship he took before he launched SleepyCat Mattresses.
With an initial investment of just Rs.4 lakhs, Kabir has set up a successful business with an innovative item a mattress that comes in a compact box and gets delivered at doorsteps. The product sold entirely on Amazon, Kabir's unique gel memory-based mattress brand SleepyCat can be squeezed into a box, making it simply transportable and consumer-friendly. The mattresses bounce back to their original form and shape when they are unpacked.

In the prior three months, Kabir worked as a one-man army and did not get time to even breathe. But as business picked up, he hired more people. Now, they are a team of six in their Mumbai office.
Currently, Kabir's startup selling around 1000 mattresses in a month. Kabir set up this company in August 2017, is nearing a turnover of Rs.12 crore this financial year.
Kabir also has a way of giving back to society. For every ten mattresses they sell, they donate one to needy people. They have already donated a few hundred mattresses to a couple of NGOs.
